holiday gift guide 2013

One of my favorite things about gift-giving, and therefore the holidays, is finding special and unique pieces for my loved ones. When I'm browsing for that perfect, one-of-a-kind item for my one-of-a-kind friend or family member, I skip the big company hoopla and go for the world of artisans, designers, and crafters.Whether they're local to me, or from across the planet, supporting small businesses has a special place in my heart and in my holiday pocketbook.

There are tons of gift guides going around this time of year, so I hope pinpointing a few of my favorite artists' work will help you find the perfect present you've been looking for!

I've actually already purchased a couple of items from this list for people in my life! Lucky them, am I right?
What sort of unique gifts are you hoping to find this holiday season? What do you get for someone who's totally tough to shop for?

  1. I love your picks! I also prefer to go the handmade/unique route. It makes things more interesting to me and I don't have to worry about picking out the same thing as someone else!

  2. These are great picks! Gotta love that Beyonce wall hanging!

In other news, you were in my dream last night! I don't remember many of the details, but I do know that we were making cookies together and having a great old time. I gotta get down to Austin one of these days!

  3. Oh my! That cheese stone plate. me, me me! I'm all about the handmade and artisan for christmas too. http://makeitadoubleplease.com/the-gift-guide-for-her/ my gift guide is a little more commercial, but I tried to find fun/whimsy things that not every blogger is putting on their guide. I really love your picks, thoughtful and unique.

  4. Typically, my favorite gifts to give and receive are things you wouldn't normally buy for yourself because you don't need them or wouldn't normally afford them or wouldn't even think about getting it for yourself. I keep a running list pretty much year round via Amazon (you can add non Amazon items to it) of things I find that I would love to have but am not going to buy for myself, and I also keep a private Amazon wish list of things I spot that I would love to buy for other people.

  5. Seriously. You have got to be the most thoughtful person! I really love that little granite cheese board, it's so unique! That's actually very similar to the granite in my kitchen. I also love the mini pouch and the gold necklace. I would be one happy lady to see those under my tree :) (so please go give some hints to my hubby!)
