I would love to say that I came up with this outfit all on my own, but it is 100% inspired by Emma Watson's look from the Golden Globes. Hey, at least I'm honest, right?

I feel like every blogger's 30x30 involves some kind of unexpected layering. For many, it's a skirt layered over a dress. This look just doesn't work for me because either the hemlines or the waistlines don't line up. In my case, I chose to layer my Gap Ultra Skinny pants under my ASOS smock dress. Briley commented the other day on how these pants fit like leggings, so this combo isn't actually that strange, but it did feel a little funny to wear pants under my dress. I mean, that's a look I haven't rocked since eighth grade.

Pants under a dress--can you dig it?

  1. You look super cute! Those pants really do look like leggings! Also, I'm in awe of those giant plants behind you. What are those?

  3. Yaow! Those plants are ginormous. Ya'll are really killing it with the location scouting for your shoots! The necklace classes up the pants/dress combo pretty nicely.

  4. I love the composition of these photos! The gray-ish plants in the background make your dress pop. And it's a lovely colour on you!

  6. This outfit is adorable. I love this dress a lot. I actually ordered a similar one from ASOS but it didn't fit correctly in the chest (too small). I was pretty bummed, but I'll just admire how cute it is on you.
I love the necklace, too! It spruces the outfit up and makes it perfectly work appropriate.
    xo!

  8. I like it! I see people do this around campus sometimes and am always like that's a little weird, but it always gets me thinking that maybe I should try it, especially with some of my older dresses that I don't feel comfortable wearing anymore because they're so short...and then I get home and forget about it.

  10. Ah, now that you mention it, I can see how Emma Watson inspired this. Must say though, really digging this outfit! You rock it!

(Also, I've a hard time rockin' the dress under a skirt thing too).

  11. I have to say, I like your take better than Emma Watson's. I hate the way her dress was completely open in the back - it made me think of a backwards robe or something. It was a really cool outfit in theory, but for me something just went a little wrong in her execution.

  12. I ADORE this outfit, Nicole! I've not tried the pants + dress look for a while, but dannnnng I love it. Also, these photos are so fun! I love the pop of orange against the plants (are those cacti??) :)

  13. I totally thought those were leggings, so it definitely worked. I'm not usually a fan of orange, but I like this dress, and you pulled off the sometimes too halloweenish color combo of black and orange so well! I adore those shoes.

  14. this color on you is DI-vine! so much so that I'm attempting to order an ASOS dress in that same orangey-red (they do it so well, don't they!)

    ♥ perfectly Priya
