making a statement

As the weather starts to cool down, I start to crave sparkles. Maybe in my mind the jewels are little pretty little icicles or something, but I can't help feeling extra attracted to all things glittery.

If you've followed this blog for a while, then you know I don't wear a lot of jewelry. I only own a few pieces and I mostly forget to wear them. In general, I have a hard time shopping for jewelry because I find it challenging to picture it in my existing closet. This is pretty weird, seeing as how I spend most of my time thinking about building outfits and what new pieces I can add to my closet.

Lately, I've been feeling more and more drawn to statement necklaces because they feel like a bigger part of an outfit, rather than just a shiny afterthought. It's like a pair of leopard flats--they just make the outfit.

Since my jewelry closet is seriously lacking, I think it's time to stock up on something sparkly.

How would you style these statement necklaces?

  1. I love pairing the few statement necklaces I have over collared shirts in winter. Patterns paired back to something shiny & sparkly just works for me. Or with a simple sweater with a silhouette that compliments the neckline & adds a little something-something to an otherwise simple outfit. I find myself add statement necklaces to change up my outfit from day to night. Maybe I've worn a comfy sweater all day, and don't quite feel like changing for dinner & drinks, and a statement necklace is the extra oomph! I love #s 4, 5, and 7 here.

  2. 1- LOVE it. Perfect fall/winter color. Could see you pairing it with so many good color combos and/or neutrals.
2,3,4- could go with almost anything
5- with your white eyelet dress, duh.
6- would be a good pop to a pretty neutral outfit
    7- I'm stumped
8- I have one similar to this and it's my go-to to throw on with anything and add either some neutral or leopard shoes
9- I have a necklace this color and can't figure out for the life of me what it goes it :/ I'd totally mail it to you if you want and you can have it! :)

  3. Of these, I see #4 as the most versatile. I also adore pearls... so yeah my bias is showing. They are all lovely though- great collection!

  4. you have the bestest ideas always. i think i'm leaning towards 1, 2, or 8 because of the versatility.

  5. i'm definitely a pearls girl, myself. i'm even thinking of having my engagement ring be pearl. the thing is that i already have some pearl statement necklaces, so i'm wanting to switch it up a bit. i mean, this one *does* have stones on it maybe...!

  6. yes! i love pairing the two statement necklaces i have with collared shirts. i want to buy lots of comfy sweaters this season, so maybe buying a necklace first will help me know what colors to buy. you're so smart. it's like you do this for a living or something ;)

  7. #2 and #3 have my name written allllllllllll over them.

  8. I've never owned a statement necklace, but I want one! #4 and #9 are my favorites. I think statement jewelry always looks great with an LBD, but I'm sure there are more creative ways to style them, too.

  9. Haha yes! I like your attitude! #2 is also a solid choice. Oh heck, they're all spectacular. I'm no help at all.

  10. My initial thought is 2 or 5 for you, just knowing what colors you tend to wear and what I like. These are all gorgeous picks though! I wouldn't think you would like 3 because if memory serves you like yellow accents on your clothes, not white. Can't wait to see what you decide on! Also, if you want to get a good quality every day something, let me know and I'll hook you up.

  11. you're totally right about 3--i never wear silver. i feel weird wearing gold with grey sometimes, and i like the idea of blush and grey, so 3 sort of fills that once-in-a-while role.

i really, really love 2. it might be the winner!
