It's safe to say that winter is in full swing here in Austin. I always think it's interesting to hear when winter starts in different parts of the country. Sara was telling me that winter usually starts in mid-October, or if they're lucky early November, in New York. In Austin, fall always officially starts on Halloween with a major temperature drop. Winter lasts between January and March, but it's obviously not the same version of winter other parts of the country see!

The temps dropped into the twenties over the weekend, and it looks like they'll stay in that range for the next few days. My closet is just not prepared for this. There's no reason to be when we have only two weeks out of the year that get down this cold.

So, here we have some layers. This cardigan is basically a blanket, and the gingham is a staple that has taken me through every season. When I was first coming up with this outfit, using the Notes app on my phone one night, looking at my pile of clothes on the floor, I intended to wear a grey sweater over the button down, rather than a cardigan. A week and poor memory later, I put this together before work and fell in love with it. I've worn it twice three times since. I think it's a great coffee shop outfit, so be sure to copy if you've got an upcoming study date or cozy Sunday with tea and a good book!

  1. I only want a gingham shirt for my wardrobe. It's my #1 piece I want to acquire this year because, for some reason, I find it so impossible to find a gingham shirt I like & that fits me right. (Boobs make buttoned shirts so difficult for me.) I love this outfit and a little bit of a summery print -- gingham makes me think of picnics, what can I say? -- transformed for winter wardrobes.

  2. Winter arrives on a random day in December. Real winter, meaning 15 degrees as the high, and stays until frigging April. So count your blessings that you have a mild winter! I am super jealous of it!

  3. Austin weather sounds a lot like Atlanta weather. It definitely looks like it belongs in a coffee shop. I think it would look great layered under a sweater too. I am not looking forward to when the 20 degrees get here tomorrow.

  4. Florida winter is WEIRD compared to PA or NY winter. On Long Island we had the ocean right there, so seasons last longer (the water holds the warmth of the summer or the cool of the winter). It gets pretty chilly late November/early December, but real winter starts in January. In PA we had no water soooo it was common for the first snow flurries to fall in October. I'd pull out my heavy jackets in early November (about a month before LI!). But the cold would also drop faster. We'd get some weirdo warm days in March but typically you wouldn't see the 70's until Apirl/May at home.

Now in south Florida? People were dancing through the streets in October because "winter weather is here!!".... it was still in the 80's. we've had a few "cold" days here or there, and actually we've hit 55 at night once or twice! But that's not normal. They say that January & February are the coldest months and I should be expecting 70's and maybe some high 60's, but we're prolly around 80 today.

  6. The coldest months in NY are January and February. Right now it's 17 degrees and it snowed lightly today. It seems I brought the cold back to NY with me! This outfit is so cute and simple! I love a good simple outfit!

  7. I wear a lot of the same stuff throughout the year, just switching up the accessories and layers, even here in Virginia where it's much colder. If you dress too warm, you'll just roast inside anyway!
