I've been trying to make this outfit work for winter for weeks, but it always seemed to have one too many pieces with tights, a sweater, etc. We had the loveliest 70 degree day a few weekends ago when Briley and I were taking photos, so I ditched the layers and decided a little color blocking was the perfect first outfit of (fake) spring.

One of the things I like most about this outfit, from a blog perspective, is that it shows a little insight into my color palette for the last few months. I have a longer post on this planned for later in the week, but I was especially intentional with the items I purchased and wore for the fall/winter season, specifically from a color standpoint. I relied on a lot of neutrals, but teal, mustard-y gold, and burgundy were my primary pops of color.

Oh wow, as I was writing that sentence I realized that this outfit is made up of fall/winter shades of primary colors. How predictable of me!

  1. How did you even manage to find a matching backdrop? That's just happy madness right there! And the teal + cognac/rust is pretty perfect. I'll be adding this bad boy to my color combination board on Pinterest. It's definitely a winner.

  7. Having a closet color wheel really helped me not bring in frivolous purchases in fall and winter. Burgundy and Navy almost became neutrals for me I wore them so much together!

  9. I would never have thought to put those shoes with that outfit, and I love it! It's not matchy matchy, but totally goes. That's something I still struggle with--being too in control (in fashion, and other aspects of my life). I keep trying to let go. I love that your styles is purposeful but free.

  11. I feel like I've been wearing the same few colors over the past few months too! Navy, purple, black, gray have been on heavy rotation! Teal, mustard, and burgundy are fab colors and they look great on you! I want spring so badly!

  13. Oh wow, Nicole! I cannot get over how much I love these photos - the outfit in and of itself is just beautiful, but the way that it matches with that fantastic wall?! I'm in loooove. This winter, I've been relying on maroon, black, and white in my wardrobe. Not the most interesting, but I certainly do love the combination and how versatile it can be :)
