on my list | lightweight jackets

one // two // three // four // five

As the temperatures start to warm up (not this week obviously, but, you know, in general), I've found myself reaching for a lightweight jacket to throw over my tees. Even though it's gorgeously warm in the sunshine, it's still chilly in the shadows -- especially when sitting on a patio for brunch!

As you've seen a hundred times, I do already own a green utility jacket, but for some reason I've been hesitating to wear it recently. The jacket I own has a boxy shape and fits pretty short, making it not super flattering or feminine. Rather than replacing my green jacket, since I obviously do wear it a ton, I think I want to add an alternative that has a longer length and a cinched waist.

One, two, and five are probably my favorites on this list, though I'm having trouble deciding on a color. I feel like one is too close in color to the jacket I already have, but I'm not sure about committing to blue because I'm worried it would clash with jeans. I like that two is a pretty different color from my pairs of blue denim, so it won't blend in. Plus, how cute would it look with my new red Breton striped tee?

  1. I have an olive lightweight jacket and I can't wait to wear it! I probably won't be able to until late March or early April though. :(
    I really like #2!

  2. My vote is for number 2 as well. I love all the zippers and pockets and looks more polished, somehow, than number five. Not sure why. I'm on a quest for a light weight waterproof jacket. Something in between a trench coat/rain coat/athletic jacket. I'm probably asking for too much.

  3. I have a light jacket that I picked up at a yard sale a couple of years ago and I love the style, but the hip pockets are really unflattering on me, I feel like. I keep holding onto it because I really want to like it, but I just don't think it works on me. Might finally go before I make this big move. My vote is for 5. It's neutral enough that you could really wear it with everything. 3 is a color that I don't remember seeing in outerwear form on here before, so that might be a smart addition to your closet. I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you choose!

  4. I'm gonna go try on number 4 this weekend. I've been looking for a jacket like this for so long, but I'm really picky. I hope it fits me well. =]

  5. I personally love #4! I think it's because it reminds me so much of the jcrew field jacket that i've had my eye on for awhile.

  6. I'm a big old fan of the lightweight jacket - I rarely wear mine as a weather-necessary jacket, but instead wear it as a part of my outfits and I love it! I really like the one you have, but I totally get the desire to have one that's a little longer too (mine is pretty cropped as well, and sometimes I wish it was a little longer). I could really see you getting a lot of wear out of a dark gray one, but #2 is my favorite - love all the zippers!

ALSO - I was just looking through Junebug Weddings because, well, I <3 you and wanted to see your work, and I DIED with the Minneapolis wedding post you wrote with Rachel and Jonathan. I went to high school with Rachel and she was VERY good friends with my brother!!! This world is so small.
