I'd like to introduce you to a couple of serious contenders for closet MVP this summer. First, say hello to my new LBD. Yes, a little black dress, but also a LOFT black dress. Her sleeves and amazing fabric won me over, even though she's a shape I would usually walk right past (too boxy, not a flared enough skirt). I'm so glad I tried her on because I fell in love and, as a bonus, she was 50% off! Gotta love those weekend sales at LOFT, amirite?

The second item I'd like you to meet is my purse. This was actually my very first purse as a child, and I think even then it wasn't new. As you saw last week, I've been searching for a new clutch, but didn't have one yet when I wore this dress out or took photos. I really thought it should be styled with a clutch instead of my usual crossbody. I pulled this purse out of a bin of old dress up clothes I hang on to because I thought it added a little personality to the otherwise black outfit. Just before we started taking photos, Chelsea suggested I tuck the two little straps inside the purse and hold it like a clutch. Voila! I think I may add a little button inside so I can carry it around without my phone, keys, and wallet spilling out everywhere I go!

Am I the only one who has held onto items since childhood? Also, shout out to my mom for having such great taste in my first purse. Moms, the original style icon.

  3. YOU NEED THIS DRESS! It's the perfect shape for you and I think it would be perfect for the climate in Florida. Go get it as soon as Loft has another sale!

  5. NO WAY! That's bananas! It's probably from like Mervyn's or something. I'll have to check!

  6. That would probably be accurate. My mom was a big Mervyn's shopper. What a nice little blast from the past.

  7. I LOVE this black dress!! Ahhh the sleeves and the drawstring waist are perfect. I would like to come over and borrow it from your closet, please :)

Also, do you have any photos of toting this clutch around as a child? It would be so cute to see how you "styled" it back in the day vs today!

  8. You need this! Actually, now that I'm thinking of you in it, I'm inspired to style it with my pink slip-ons next.

I tried looking for a photo of me with the purse but haven't found one yet. Have to enlist Mom to help me with that one!

  9. You're so sweet! I've been drawn to these minimalist pieces lately, but like I mentioned last week, I'm not totally seeing myself in them. I don't feel like I'm the ~effortless~ cool girl, and I feel like wearing things like this makes me seem like I'm trying to be. To put it in FGG terms, this is how I'm being fake this week. Thankfully, a black dress is just a canvas for something awesome, so I'm excited to accessorize it a bunch of fun ways that feel more me -- like with the childhood purse turned clutch!

I LOVE that you found Pokemon Snap stickers! I'm weird about the things I hold onto. I hold onto things that I think would be cool to show my someday-maybe-kid to tell them about what the world was like during that time. I loved the hand-me-downs I got from my parents cool days in the 80s and I always wished I had stuff from the other decades of their lives too. I guess that's not weird, but the things I choose to be sentimental about a kind of weird, haha!

  15. This outfit is perfection. Seriously crushing on that dress! I have a large plastic tub full of old stuffed animals and trophies, and a bunch of journals from throughout the years. I wish I had some of my old purses and things, but sadly, since I have two younger sisters, I'm lucky to have saved anything from my childhood.

  16. You look amazing! I love this new darker vibe you've got going on. Not darker in a vampy or goth way but in a more chic and adult way. It's so classy and flattering and I just love the strappy shoes as well. I swear you are getting better with age!
    xoxo
