life lately

It's been a very long time since I've done one of these (over a year...), but lately I've had some random things I wanted to share with y'all that I've been up to!

CELEBRATING | Dago took his first steps in four months! *aggressively cabbage patch dances* He still has a ways to go, but his tendon is so close to being good as new. Thanks for all of y'all's support and prayers and good vibes this summer. It's been a bummer for us both, but hopefully we'll fill the rest of the year with fun trips to make up for it!

READING | It took me way too long to pick up Jenny Lawson's Furiously Happy, but it's never too late to read something that makes you belly laugh one second and quietly whisper "me too" the next. Since I've been taking Dago to physical therapy twice a week, I've found myself with a little extra time to catch up on reading. Luckily, the receptionist is cool as heck and never judges me for giggling in the waiting room. Highly recommend this read, both for people who have mental illness and people who love people who have mental illness. And, ya know, for people who like to laugh, because obviously she's the funniest person on Earth.

WATCHING | Have y'all all watched The Get Down yet? I know we're still caught up in Stranger Things, but Netflix's newest original series is just as great. I guess I should say "watched" instead of "watching" because we obvi finished The Get Down's six stellar episodes in a single sitting. #bingewatchlife If you're interested in the birth of hip-hop, the Bronx in the late '70s, seeing Jaden Smith act, or the latest from the mind of Baz Lurhmann, you need to give this show a try. For what it's worth, I'm not a huge Baz fan, but Romeo + Juliet is the only Romeo and Juliet story I acknowledge. Fair warning: the first episode is 90 minutes of crazy, pure Baz Lurhmann goodness, which isn't everyone's thing, so get to at least the second episode before stopping, because the rest of the show is really relatively normal (and all just so so wonderful!). (Also, if you have watched it, here's a great interview with the actor who plays Zeke.)

LISTENING | I finally took a break from listening to Chance the Rapper's Coloring Book for the first time this summer, and holy cow there's so much great music! Pinegrove's Cardinal is in constant rotation in our house, as is Field Mouse's new Episodic. I also love all things pop, so of course I'm loving that Queen Carly Rae Jepsen just released a few bangers that didn't make it onto last year's Emotion.

OBSESSING | I've been hella obsessed lately with the style and life musings of Ashlyn over at The Quiet Kind. Being on her blog makes me feel like I'm drinking vanilla chai on a porch in The South, with the wind gently blowing. Yeah, it's that good. A few outfit highlights: fancy pants I wouldn't have thought to try, a chic LBD look for cool girls, overalls and a bandana never looked so good, a truly flattering off-the-shoulder outfit, and the perfect statement shorts for the end of summer.

NESTING | Now that I work from home, I obviously spend a lot more time in it than I used to. My nesting was pretty strong last year, but it's hit new highs recently. I ain't mad! I'm hoping to grab this ottoman for my couch on Labor Day Weekend sale, as well as this desk chair that I've had my eye on for over a year. I also think there's a wall that needs to be galleried (yes, a verb)

SHOPPING | I've got quite a collection of boots, but there are a couple of pairs I'm excited to add this season. First up is a pair of grey ankle booties, which will take me from late-summer (because Texas) all the way into springtime. I've got my eye on two pairs from Splendid, the Hamptyn bootie in Smoke and the Chelsea bootie in Dark Stone. Have you ever worn shoes from Splendid? I haven't tried a pair yet, but these are by far my favorites this season. I'd love to know which you like better!

What's been up in your life lately? What are you reading, watching, listening to, or celebrating?
