If you live anywhere like Austin, fall weather is still at least a month out. To combat the heat and start enjoying sweater weather in my soul, I like to play my favorite fall albums around this time every year to get into the season. It's like playing Christmas music, but less jarring! Whether you're looking for something to snuggle up to this fall or you're sipping an iced pumpkin spice latte and pretending it's seasonally appropriate, these albums are the perfect soundtrack for the rest of September.

1. I'm Alone, No You're Not - Joseph
2. Emotion - Carly Rae Jepsen
3. Pure Heroine - Lorde
4. American Football - American Football
5. From Under the Cork Tree - Fall Out Boy
6. Heavier Things - John Mayer
7. The Execution of All Things - Rilo Kiley
8. Ivy Tripp - Waxahatchee
9. The Con - Tegan and Sara
10. Heartstrings - Leighton Meester

What are your favorite fall albums?

P.S. Here's a playlist with a few songs from each album if that's more your style!

I wrote earlier this summer about my love of souvenirs I can wear, so you better believe I had my eye out for a cute item to commemorate my trip to the Palm Desert! A few people from the group I was with decided to go vintage shopping one morning in the Yucca Valley, which is just outside of Joshua Tree. The first shop we visited, The End, was by far the best of the bunch. Gems from every decade and in a wide range of sizes, all carefully curated by the shop's owner. I think each of the babes in my group took home at least one piece from this shop!

I went in hoping to find the Palm Springs mumu of my dreams, but fell in love with this cropped geometric-print top. If there ever were proof that you should try vintage on despite the listed size, it's this top. The tag said XS, but I felt pretty sure it looked like my size (ahem...not an XS). I was right - it's a perfect fit!

I love that even though it's technically just a black cropped top, the print is reminiscent of the mid-century architecture Palm Springs is known for. Another perfect travel souvenir in my closet!

Let's talk rompers. For years, women everywhere have uttered the phrase "rompers just don't fit my body." It's easy to understand why - rompers are an admittedly challenging piece of clothing to wear (especially for small-bladdered humans), much less to find in the correct fit and shape of your body. Unlike dresses or even pants, rompers have to hug exactly the right places and none of the wrong ones in order to work.

My theory? There's a romper out there for everyone. Just like not every body is the same, not every romper is one-size-fits-all. However, there is a romper out there, with your exact measurements, just waiting to be found. Think of them as the glass slipper of clothing. The Goldilocks' porridge of fashion. You have to kiss a few frogs to find your soulmate and try on a few (hundred...) rompers to find your perfect fit.

The secret to a well-fitting romper is all in the waist. Torso proportions are exceedingly important when it comes to rompers. Long-torsoed babes should keep an eye out for rompers that fit like low-rise shorts with a tank top or blouse attached. For short-torsoed gals like myself, high-waisted rompers that appear more like fit-and-flare dresses are the way to go.

This particular romper fits my proportions so perfectly that I'm almost not sure it could fit anyone else. The waist-to-crotch measurement is so exact that a sudden growth spurt would turn this playsuit into my birthday suit in seconds flat.

Are you pro-romper? Tell me about your romper trying and buying experience!

If there's two things I love, it's waffles and weekends, so this adding this tee to my closet was a big ole no-duh. I was trying to write a witty post about waffles and/or weekends, but, to be honest, I'm still in vacation mode and can't seem to squeeze out much legitimate writing. Instead, here's a little happy list because it's Monday and wouldn't you rather focus on anything but that?

A Few (More) of My Favorite Things:

The color yellow
Chocolate milkshakes
Having my groceries delivered
Sensitive souls
Finding my people
Seeing new parts of the world
Personality tests
BoJack Horseman (Season Four OMG)
Insecure
Unseasonably cool days in Austin
Comfy pants
Cat snuggles
Crossing off bucket list items
Taking walks, both alone and with friends

What's on your happy list right now?

Speaking of closets, Kimi shared an updated version of her closet inventory. I always find these posts so interesting!

I've never been a jeans and tee kind of girl, but Priya's outfit is making me think I should give it a try.

Look how fun these colorful backpacks are! The iridescent one is giving me heart eyes.

I waffled back and forth on what to title this post: '60s vibes, Palm Springs vibes, late summer vibes. In the end, it's all about vibes! My favorite outfits are ones that have a strong sense of vibes. I love referential fashion - clothing that reminds you of something else, whether that's a person, place, or time. This outfit reminds me of Twiggy, of the girls I imagine were in magazines when my dad was in high school, of the bold retro colors all over Palm Springs. It reminds me of summertime with its punchy yellow and breezy chambray.

I couldn't help but feel happy the first time I wore it, so I made sure to wear it again on a day I wasn't feeling too hot. Turns out there's really something to that feel good, dress better thing! ;)

Apologies for the quick post today! I wrote this the Friday night before my Palm Springs adventure started. Be sure to follow along on Instagram as I explore my favorite place I'd never been!

september small goals

After a solid start to the summer, August was a tough one. We got quite a bit of bad news this month, including a diagnoses that Dago's mama's cancer is back. Our personal struggles paired with the pain our country went through, from Charlottesville to Houston, made this month one of the hardest this year. I just feel exhausted. Usually the new moon ignites my motivation, but the eclipse really messed with me mentally and emotionally, so I just haven't been feeling it. I guess I'm telling you this as a preface to my goal recap because there are somethings it seems like I should have done that just didn't happen.

All of that said, here's how I did in August:

1. expand my audience for Feel Good, Dress Better | Nope. See above.
2. go to the gym with friends | Done! This was my one big win for the month. Not only did I go to the gym with friends, but I got a gym membership too! I've been going to Planet Fitness with friends a couple times a week and really enjoying it so far!
3. prep for Palm Springs | Done! And - guess what - I'm in Palm Springs right now! Check out my Insta to follow along!
4. maintain a clean apartment | Done! Well, done and not done. My main focus for this goal was keeping my side of our bedroom and specifically the closet clean, which was a success! I also did a pretty good job of staying on top of dishes and the bathrooms. My desk on the other hand? That's a different story.
5. make some progress in paying off my credit card debt | Nope. And some unforeseen circumstances actually made it worse - womp womp.

3/5-ish? Honestly, I'll take it. The only goal I actively tried at this month was getting to the gym, so I'm glad I was able to mark that off the list.

Onward to my September goals!

1. Enjoy my freaking vacation | Long story short, what was initially a work trip to Palm Springs is now a week-long vacation in Palm Springs and I AM READY FOR IT (which is good, since, by the time this is live, I'm already here!). I have never taken a week-long vacation - in fact, it's one of my 10 before 28 goals - but I have high hopes that it's going to cure me of my funk.
2. Go to the gym every week that I'm in Austin | In addition to Palm Springs, I'm going to Asheville for work later this month, but the rest of the weeks I want to make sure I'm getting the most out of my gym membership!
3. Choose a new Personal Style ID | If you're in the Feel Good, Dress Better Facebook group then you know that I'm looking for a new way to describe my style! I've identified with "playfully classic" for the last few years, but my style has shifted and I think there are words that are a better fit. Let me know if you have any suggestions for how you'd describe my style!
4. Drink more water | Yeah, I'm going pretty easy on myself this month, but with all the travel I'm doing, staying on top of water intake is even more important!
5. Do one big marketing push for FGDB | I kinda took a month off on accident as far as workbook promotion is concerned. I'd love to either pitch someone from my dream list or host an event dedicated to the workbook, but need to work out some details first on the latter so I'm going to keep it vague for now!

Your turn! Share your small goals for September via the link-up below or in the comments!
